In accordance with the laid down rules and regulations, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Saturday 9th March 2013 officially announced Hon. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta as the President-Elect of the Republic of Kenya. This followed the final tallying of the ballots cast during the General Elections of 4th March which indicated that the President-elect had garnered the required 50% + 1 of the total votes cast.
The people of Kenya conducted themselves admirably, not only during the voting exercise but also during the wait for results. Local and International election observers who witnessed the entire process all returned a unanimous verdict that the voting was indeed free and fair.
One very key aspect of this year’s election was a pre-election pact signed by all eight presidential contenders, which binds them to pursue any grievance with the election process through a judicial process. Although one petition has been raised, this will be heard and determined by the Supreme Court. For the ordinary Kenyan, the election process has effectively come to an end and businesses and Government services are fully back to normal.
The Tourism Sector takes this opportunity to congratulate the people of Kenya for the manner in which the entire process has been handled. We have done our country proud and proved to the world that Kenya can conduct a complex election in an atmosphere of peace.
The tourism sector was one of those affected as some prospective visitors kept away awaiting the conclusion of the electoral process. We now look forward to welcoming intending visitors to Magical Kenya and assure you of our world renowned warmth and hospitality.
